The legislation, known as the Data Privacy and Protection Act (DPPA), seeks to establish comprehensive federal regulations governing the collection, use, and sharing of consumer data by companies and organizations.
The bipartisan bill, co-sponsored by Senators Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) and Mark Warner (D-Virginia), represents a significant step toward addressing growing concerns about online privacy and data security. Key provisions of the bill include:
